چکیده

This paper presents the three scripting commands and main functionalities of a novel character animation environment called CHASE. CHASE was developed for enabling inexperienced programmers, animators, artists, and students to animate in meaningful ways virtual reality characters. This is achieved by scripting simple commands within CHASE. The commands identified, which are associated with simple parameters, are responsible for generating a number of predefined motions and actions of a character. Hence, the virtual character is able to animate within a virtual environment and to interact with tasks located within it. An additional functionality of CHASE is supplied. It provides the ability to generate multiple tasks of a character, such as providing the user the ability to generate scenario-related animated sequences. However, since multiple characters may require simultaneous animation, the ability to script actions of different characters at the same time is also provided. Keywords—character animation, scripting language, scripting actions, interactive narrative

Animating Faces Using Appearance Models

Here we present an overview of a system we are developing for animating faces using appearance models. To facilitate more widespread use of animated characters, we are interested in developing techniques that: 1) require only easy to use and inexpensive data capture equipment, 2) are threedimensional allowing virtual characters to be animated, 3) allow a range of face models, from near-photorea...

A Question of Character: Rules to Play by

Almost every type of computer game has some sort of AI scripting language which enables level designers to script a story arc for a mission or game level and to provide personalities and individual responses to different characters in a game. And whether the "characters" in a game are 3D polygonal virtual actors the player explicitly interacts with or virtual generals who direct massive armies ...

A head movement propensity model for animating gaze shifts and blinks of virtual characters

An automatic model is presented for animating gaze shifts of virtual characters towards target locations in a virtual environment. Two connected components are described: an eye–head controller and a blinking controller. The gaze control model is based on results from neuroscience, and dictates the contributions of the eyes and head to a gaze shift according to an individual’s head movement pro...

Creating Behavior Authoring Environment for Everyday Users

The design of interactive experiences is increasingly important in our society. Examples include interactive media, computer games, and interactive portals. There is increasing interest in modes of interaction with virtual characters, as they represent a natural way for humans to interact. Creating such characters is a complex task, requiring both creative skills (to design personalities, emoti...

3D Animation using Visual Script Language

In animating virtual characters, it is necessary to provide an interface that allows users specify the characters’ motion with high-level concepts as well as low-level details. And it will be convenient to user if the system provides an animation agent that processes various tasks for animation. In this paper, we suggest an agent (HUman-MOtion Agent: HUMOA) that controls behaviors and actions o...
